Build a pattern from simple marks
Dots, short lines and outlines are useful starting points for dimensional decoration. Sketch a few shapes on paper, then choose a pattern with enough space between the marks to keep the design clear.
Check the product instructions for suitable surfaces and application methods. Do not assume every dimensional paint is intended for the same materials or finishing process.
Practice before decorating
Try the applicator on a spare surface first. Practice starting and stopping a line, and compare small dots with longer strokes. Keep your test piece nearby as a reference.
Leave the piece flat while it dries, following the timing on the product instructions. Avoid handling raised areas before they are ready. Any heat-setting or washing steps must come from the specific product guidance.
Make the texture part of the idea
Outline a hand-drawn motif, add a dotted border to a card or repeat a pattern across a small decorative object. Choose a surface approved for your paint and let the raised detail be the focus.
For a kit, include a practice area and clear illustrated steps. Test the whole project with the intended materials so the activity is easy to understand from the first mark.
